The "crazy cat lady" trope told us that loving a cat meant something was wrong with you. That you were lonely, eccentric, or couldn't keep a human relationship. That your devotion to a small animal was something to apologize for.

We call that what it is: nonsense.

Choosing to share your home with a cat is one of the most intentional things a person can do. Cats don't come to you out of obligation — they come to you because you earned it.
